Bachelor's Thesis in biology
Det helsevitenskapelige fakultet
This course is for students who would like to do a bachelor thesis in biology at the Department of medical biology. This course can also be taken as a singular course
BIO-1002 Zoology, BIO-1003 Botany, BIO-1005 Ecology and Evolution
The project may be a study of literature or of a practical/experimental nature and has to be presented in a thesis. During one semester the total workload for this course should correspond to approximately six weeks full time job, thesis writing included. The thesis should contain a relevant introduction, including a clear aim of the work, followed by material, methods, results, discussion and a complete reference list. Note that the thesis must follow the accepted rules for citations and references in publications. Academic supervision will be offered by somebody from the IMB staff depending on capacity. The student gets in touch with their supervisor and decides upon the nature and focus of the project. A contract of supervision in addition to a one page project outline including the aim, approach and timeframe must be approved in advance by the institute board at IMB. The deadline for approval of project description is 1 February for spring projects and 1 September for autumn projects. The contract of supervision can be obtained at the Institute of Medical biology Period for the project task: 15 January to 1 June in the spring semester, and 15 August to 15 December during the autumn semester.
The aim is to bring students closer to the discipline at the research level and a certain degree of independent effort is required in this respect.
