Course contents
This course is intended for those students with no background in biology. An introduction is given to the ecological principles that form the basis for the study of aquatic animal resources. Topics will include oceanography, marine biology and fisheries ecology, where insight into the biological processes and interactions of exploited populations is given. Harvest technology includes gear and ship technology, fish behaviour, selectivity, hydro-acoustics, and by-catch reduction.
Objective of the course
To give students with no prior background in ecology and in particular fish ecology an introduction to physiological and ecological principles that is elementary in the studies of animal resources.

Multiple approaches through lectures and labs/field work/cruises
Assessment methods
4 hours written exam.
Coursework requirements
Laboratory/cruise/field courses are mandatory.
Obligatory attendance of 80% of the lectures.
