Course contents
The course discusses various biotechnological aspects that link biotechnology to agriculture, medicine, industry and environment. Topics that will be elucidated in lectures and seminars will be: problems of expression of foreign genes in bacteria yeast or cells from insects and animals; protein engineering; transgenes from plants or animals, peptides and their use within biotechnology; fermentation and upgrading processes, bio-mass and bio-degradation; ethical, legal, economic and philosophical rationales. The lab course comprises: a fundamental introduction to synthesis and use of oligonucleotides and oligopeptides, seat specific DNA mutagenesis, automatic DNA sequencing; mammalian cell culture work; protein purification and 2D-gel (two dimensional gel electrophoresis).
