Course contents
The course aims to yield detailed information about the construction of genetic material and about how it is used in vivo. Prokaryote organisms will be used as a point of departure and the following will subsequently be dealt with: DNA structure, replication, chromosome segregation, cell division, mutations, repair, recombination, transposons, transcription and translation. Students are expected to understand how molecular genetic processes are applied in methods of gene technology. The course will include a practical assignment to be completed and analysed. The assignment should conclude with a report that presents and evaluates the analysis of the result. The course will also include a compulsory literature study to be presented in writing and discussed group-wise. Both reports need to be approved prior to exam.

Objective of the course
The course should provide detailed knowledge about the structure of genetic matter and about how it is used in vivo, also about smaller genetic units, such as bacteriophages, plasmids and transposons. The student should develop an understanding as to how molecule energy processes are applied in gene technology.
