Course contents
The following themes are covered: fish diversity and distributions, swimming, osmoregulation, respiration, feeding and digestion, reproduction and larval development, and life-histories. The laboratory course will give students an introduction to practical work in the laboratory, data analysis and the writing of reports. Students will also be required to write a 'term-paper'/essay on a selected topic.

Objective of the course
The course gives an introduction to the life-styles of fishes, with an emphasis on anatomy and physiological adaptations to different aquatic habitats.

Assessment methods
The course examination is in three parts:
Laboratory report
Essay (term paper)
Written examination (3 hours)
Each of the above is evaluated as pass/fail, and students must achieve a pass grade on all three parts of the examination to be awarded a pass grade for the course.
Participation in the written examination is conditional upon students having achieved pass grades for both the laboratory report and essay.
Students who re-take the course, and have previously achieved pass grades for the laboratory report and/or essay must re-submit all written work (laboratory report and essay) for evaluation and approval.

12.12.2008 - Examination date is preliminary and may be subject to change. The definitive examination date will be announced on notice boards at the faculties at the beginning of the month of May for the spring semester and the beginning of the month of November for the autumn semester.
