Techniques in Plant Biotechnology

This laboratory course will have an introduction (1 ECT) common to all students and the students are required to choose three modules (each 3 ECTS) among the following four modules:
1) Plant organogenesis and protoplast transformation
2) Basic molecular techniques (purification, detection and quantification of nucleic acids, e.g. southern blotting and real time-PCR)
4) Phytotron techniques (growing of plant in a controlled environment)
5) Qualitative and quantitative analysis of biologically active molecules (extraction and general chromatography, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, spectroscopy and mass spectrometry)
The language of instruction is English and all of the syllabus material is in English. Examination questions will be given in English, but may be answered either in English or a Scandinavian language.
Lectures/seminars 20 hours, individual supervision, laboratory training 60 hours.
Laboratory reports graded fail/pass
