BIO-3308 Medical Biochemistry -10 ects
The course is administrated by
Faculty of Medicine
Type of course
Theoretical and practical.
Recommended prerequisites
BIO-2300 Biochemistry
Course contents
The course is an introduction to medical and clinical biochemistry. The lectures emphasise integrated human metabolism and cover both normal conditions and changes resulting from various diseases. The lab exercises comprise quantitative methods to determine disease or risk of disease. Interpretation and assessment of lab results using statistical methods will be discussed. A series of seminars will deal with recent publications that describe biochemical mechanisms that may yield added insight into pathological processes
Objective of the course
Understanding of integrated human metabolism and basic biochemical principles underlying the development of certain important diseases. It should be possible to understand and interpret data from quantitative analyses that expose a disease or risk of disease.
Language of instruction and examination
Norwegian or English
Teaching methods
Lectures, student colloquia/seminar and lab work. The seminar, with presentation of articles, and the lab reports need to be approved prior to final exam.
