Norwegian College of Fishery Science
Type of course
Theoretical subject.
Obligatory Prerequisites
BIO-2502 Marin Biology
Course contents
In recent years a lot of the marine research has been concentrated on how the physical forcing is shaping the marine environment. This course focus on an integrated understanding of physical and biological processes, and will provide knowledge to new trends in the coupling between physical oceanography and marine ecology. The theoretical part of the course deals with the basis for the variability of marine production in time and space. The exercise and practical training will focus on new methods in operational oceanography and ocean monitoring (satellite, autonomous vehicles and moored systems). Students will learn sampling design, acquisition, analysis and presentation of plankton data using 3-D sampling platforms such as SCANFISH-CTDF-OPC and ADCP.
Objective of the course
Give new insight in modern understanding of marine ecology, with in-depth knowledge of in the use of new technology and modern analytical tools on physical and biological data.
Language of instruction and examination
English
