This year, the focus at the Forum conference will be that a substantial part of development cooperation work is directed towards, or has implications for, indigenous peoples. Still, some of the most dominant topics in the current policies are oil and commercial cooperation, forests and climatic change rainforests and dominant population groups. One of the goals of The Forum Conference 2012 is to discuss how indigenous people can be made visible and important in this bigger picture. Forum for development cooperation with indigenous peoples seeks to provide a meeting place for different actors within the field of development work, and to raise questions regarding indigenous people. The Forum Conference 2012 will be a physical meeting place for people working with development cooperation from the fields of research, management and development work; will present and reflect upon the foundations of the forum within Sápmi and the northern regions, and facilitate reflection concerning the current role and future work of the Forum.

Geographically, the Forum Conference 2012 will move from Karasjok, via Indonesia to Brazil. Thematically, it will not only have a focus on indigenous rights, but will move from a focus on policies to an analysis of impact, examine various examples of cooperation between indigenous peoples, and discuss experiences from the emerging indigenous agendas in the Churches. The Forum Conference 2012 wishes to give knowledge, share experiences and raise questions.
