We encourage all participants to book flights and accommodation in Tromsø as early as possible, as June is a popular travel season.
Tromsø has an international airport, Langnes, located just 3 km from the city centre. The recently expanded airport offers direct flights to many European cities, as well as frequent connections from major cities in Norway. Tromsø can also be reached by bus or car. There is no train station in Tromsø.
Here is a list of nice hotels in the Tromsø city center:
Closer to the conference venue, there are two additional accommodation options: the university guesthouse (see below) and the Penguin Hotel, which is the Patient Hotel primarily intended for hospital patients and their relatives, who travel to Tromsø from other parts of Northern Norway. This hotel is part of the University Hospital of North Norway. The Penguin Hotel is located one bus stop away from the campus and is also within walking distance from the conference venue (approximately a 10-minute walk). The price per room here is not lower than the hotels in the city center. There are no grocery stores in the vicinity. If you choose to stay at this hotel, please note that you will encounter many patients, and the hotel entrance is located within the hospital. Since the purpose of the hotel is to accommodate hospital patients, we do not recommend staying there.
STAYING AT UNIVERSITY GUESTHOUSE ON CAMPUS
There is a university guesthouse located right on campus, just a 5-minute walk from the conference venue. We will pre-book the 19 available rooms. Rooms will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. We will accept requests after the evaluation of abstracts is completed.
In the guesthouse (Breiviklia 13, Tromsø), each room accommodates one person, but the bathroom and kitchen are shared with the neighboring room. The standard is relatively simple (see the pictures in a file attached at the bottom of this page). There is no breakfast served, but the guests can prepare their own breakfast. However, the accommodation is comfortable enough, and many renowned scholars have stayed there over the years. Otherwise, the guesthouse primarily accommodates university guests, short-term visiting researchers, and PhD students.
The cost is 400 NOK per night, but one can book a room ONLY for the entire week at a total cost of 2,800 NOK (Norwegian kroner).
